Mercedes-Benz Investing Rs.3000 Crore in Maharashtra: Uday Samant

Maharashtra Industries Minister Uday Samant announced that German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz will invest Rs 3,000 crore in Maharashtra, boosting job opportunities and industries in the state. The announcement followed a meeting between Samant and top executives of the company in Germany to discuss investment opportunities.

In a social media post, Samant stated, “Had a meeting with the representative of Mercedes-Benz company while on tour to Germany today. Mercedes-Benz is going to invest Rs 3,000 crore in Maharashtra this year. This will increase the number of jobs in Maharashtra along with industries. There was a discussion regarding this today,” said Samant in a post in Marathi.

During his visit, Samant met with several Mercedes-Benz management board members, including Dr. Jörg Berger, Political Operations – External Affairs, Mercedes-Benz Group AG Director Marina Krets, Sales & Marketing, Region Overseas, Mercedes-Benz Group AG Director Martin Schulz, and Mercedes-Benz India Executive Operations Head Venkatesh Kulkarni.

This development is expected to boost the Shiv Sena-BJP-NCP government’s prospects ahead of the state assembly elections, amidst opposition claims that Maharashtra is losing major projects to other states like Gujarat.

Samant also mentioned that the Maharashtra delegation met with their German counterparts to discuss bridging the gap in skilled labor. He noted that Maharashtra would support the German state of Baden-Württemberg in addressing their workforce needs. The state plans to ensure a smooth transition for Maharashtra’s workers by equipping them with technical skills and basic German language proficiency for employment opportunities with German companies.

The delegation also met Winfried Kretschmann, Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg, along with other ministers to further these discussions.
